The First Win for the SEFS

The Sefs chalk up their first win of the season by muscling off team Yellow from OLPS with a 3-1 scoreline.

It was dramatic and high energy from the first minute, as SSFC went into the game feeling worried and scared that this would be 3rd time unlucky. And their jitters gave the first goal away on the 15th min mark.

However at the break, the sharp manager decided to field some changes by bringing on speedster Randall and new-discovery Daryl who were playing with much chemistry as they turn and run, writhe and sprint through the opponents, creating a splendid goal for Wayne on his debut game. A goal worthy for the goal of the season prize as it went beyond reach of the keeper at the top left corner.

But that was not all, the combination of Randall and Daryl brought about another goal, this time scored by Daryl who surprised even the Sefs themselves as he sharply let loose and was rewarded with a superbly taken goal.

In the last 40 mins, the manager decided to make a few more changes, and the first-choice keeper, Elvin came on. Indeed he showed his confidence and has proven why he is the team's favorite keeper.

However, due to a time constraint, the team's super-sub was not utilised. Zachary Lee Xiang was unfortunately left sitting by the bench. However, since the team knows how good he is, he had graciously allowed some of the lesser players to play instead.

A controversial hand-ball incident gave the team their first penalty, which was taken like a pro by Randall who showed to the rest of the world why he should be playing soccer for his church and not run track for his school. A most memorable goal to the right side beyond the reach of any keeper.

What deserves special mention is our loyal supporters. They came, they shouted and they loved every minute of the game. Despite the roaring sun, they armed themselves with umbrellas and watch the whole game in the intense heat. Hopefully they continue to come for the matches as their cheers and claps make the boys run only faster and play only better.

On the whole, the Sefs had proven to be a worthy opponent. The team's goal-scorers are finding their scoring boots, the midfielders are linking the passes and holding the ball well and as usual, the defenders are playing solidly together with the keeper. If only they can improve on their settling down. I'm sure the scoreline would had been clean for them.

Nevertheless, we await the start of the league as the team is now taking a break from their friendlies and reorganise themselves for the real thing. The team had found the winning formula, and it's all thanks to the Manager who had kept faith in the team and despite the initial apprehension stood firm in his belief in them and introduced the winning line-up. For that, he truly deserves the Man-of-the-Match.

Three Cheers for the St Stephen Football Club and their loyal supporters.

Until the next match, this is NT, Sports Correspondant, out.
