About Soccer

As you all know, the boys have soccer training, to compete in the Catholeague. And recently, there are a few changes going on. Namely, the older boys are no longer part of the team and the remaining team with some new players would have a new coach. This new coach is a jc PE teacher, thus he is very qualified. We have also bought a few Euro-balls, getting new jerseys. All in all, I must say that we are very excited.

Now, there are a few things to be concerned of, and that is memberships. There are now 2 kind of thoughts, one group feels that players who does not want come consistently for training, would not be allowed in the team. The second group feels that as long as the player is good, he should also be welcomed.

My personal take is that, no matter how good a player is, by chosing not to come for training, should not be in the team.

The reason is simple, soccer is a team sport. What is important is morale. If others see that 1 or 2 are allowed not to come. Then they would feel that they too can chose not to come as and when they feel like.

Another reason is that if those so-called good players do not come, then how are they going to contribute to the rest of the team who are not as good? It would be too selfish to say that they are only interested in the match, and not training. That's because it is through training can we build a community, friendship bonds between all players.

Lastly, if players do not come consistently, how can the coach train effectively? He would never know who would be coming or who would not be coming. And set-pieces cannot be depended on any particular person.

Anyhow, my greatest concern is that this soccer team will start on a good note. A new beginning is crucial. It would be very sad if after this new beginning with new players, new coach, new equipments but attitude remains the same. If attitude is not changed or improved right from the start, I believe that the old problems we used to faced will be back again.

Frustrations and unhappiness that we were very used to previously, would be back again.
